There's one issues (of many) you'll need to be aware of and you will not see it or feel it until your terrazzo restoration specialist make his first cut, which is " Softening of the Terrazzo Matrix. "
We finished a terrazzo project for a customer who is the original homeowner which he purchased his home in 1959. There has been four generation's family members raised in this structure and you can imagine how much traffic in 51 years, plus they have very heavy furniture and a upright piano which was never moved in a difference location. In turn, the weight of the furniture causes indentations within the matrix (valleys) and the foot traffic causes wear patterns in and out of rooms. Due to the fact you can only grind & hone these vintage terrazzo floors only so deep, (with out loosing color and aggregates) you can only minimizes the waves in the floor to make it look as level as possible. One way to prevent further softening, is to apply a densifier or hardener duing the restoration process. |
